How to Use Crushed Brick for Driveways

Solid brick is a fairly durable surface and can be used on driveways; however, crushed brick has been compromised and no longer has the structural integrity to withstand the constant weight of heavy vehicles. If you want to use crushed brick in your driveway, it is best kept to the sides as a border decoration so that it doesn't slowly turn to dust.

Instructions

    • 1

Push stakes into the ground along the sides of the driveway and run twine from one stake to the next. Place the stakes 6 to 12 inches out from the sides of the driveway. This will act as your guide.

    • 2

Load crushed brick in a wheelbarrow and bring it to one end of the driveway. Dump crushed brick in piles along the sides of the driveway, between the twine and driveway.

    • 3

Rake the bricks out smooth within the 6- to 12-inch-space all the way down the edge of the drive on both sides.

    • 4

Dig a trench following the line of the string.

    • 5

Insert a landscape border in the trench so that about 2 inches is sticking above ground. Press the dirt you removed back up against the border to secure it.

    • 6

Tap the border stakes into the edging at a slight angle and down into the dirt to keep the edging from shifting.
