How do I Apply Sealer to Large Driveway Via Trailer?

Every year you must apply a tar-based sealer to blacktop asphalt driveways. You can purchase a hand-held sprayer to apply the spray but if you have a large driveway, you might want to use a trailer to hold a larger spray container and yourself. This will make the task easier and allow you to finish the task faster.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the driveway and seal any large cracks by hand with the sealer and a paintbrush. Fill in the crack until the sealer is level with the surface of the asphalt.

    • 2

Secure the trailer to your vehicle and take the trailer to the equipment supply store where you plan to rent the sealer container. Purchase the sealer when you rent the container.

    • 3

Place the container onto the back of your trailer and secure it with ratchet straps. This will prevent the container from sliding around while you transport it.

    • 4

Position the trailer as close to the house as possible and in the center of the driveway. If you cannot spray the entire width of the driveway in one pass, start all the way to one side.

    • 5

Turn on the pump connected to the sealer container. Have a second person drive down the driveway slowly as you apply a consistent coat of sealer onto the surface of the asphalt. Repeat the process on the other side of the driveway if necessary.

    • 6

Place a rope across the end of the driveway for the next 36 hours to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access while the sealer cures.
