How to Add Color to Driveway Sealer

Adding color to a driveway gives a decorative appearance to the space dedicated to family vehicles. A plain concrete driveway may fit well in a modern neighborhood, appearing as all the other parking spots along the road. For the homeowner who wants to be distinctive, adding color to the area will grab attention and set the area apart. The color should complement the overall color scheme of the home.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a glossy solvent-based sealer, which is less translucent and allows for brighter color application.

    • 2

Select an industrial powdered pigment in your color of choice and stir it into the sealant, using the metal stirrer. Add enough pigment to produce the hue you prefer.

    • 3

Cover the areas around the driveway with tarps or plastic. This will prevent over-spray from damaging the lawn or other landscaping.

    • 4

Apply the sealant using an airless paint sprayer. Fill the sprayer according to the manufacturer's directions for paint. Spray in a left to right motion, completely covering the drive area. Allow to dry.

    • 5

Spray a second coat if needed, after the first coat dries. A second coat will darken the color.
