How to Seal a Crack to Stop Weeds

In almost any yard and around any home, weeds grow up from the cracks in the sidewalk. One way to get rid of them is to kill them with spray. This may seem like a fix, but it is only temporary. A more permanent solution is to seal up the cracks to prevent weeds from growing. In just a few quick minutes, you can have the cracks sealed up and those pesky weeds out of your life.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray existing weeds with any type of weed killer until covered. Pull up the shriveled and dead weeds and their roots a few days later.

    • 2

Remove all dirt from the cracks. Spray a hose into the cracks to clean out any leftover dirt and debris. Wait for the area to dry before sealing the gaps.

    • 3

Shake the crack sealer. Cut a 1/4-inch hole in the tip of the spout with scissors. Squeeze the sealer into the crack by hand, working from one end to the other.

    • 4

Fill the crack completely. Overfill if necessary to allow for shrinkage once the sealer dries. Wait 24 hours and apply a second coat if needed to even out the surface.

    • 5

Inspect the cracks after 24 more hours and verify they are sealed, with no gaps where weeds could grow through.
