Clean your paving stone surface thoroughly. Use a masonry or specialized paving cleaner to remove all dirt, dust, foreign particles and debris from the paving stones. If there are grease or oil stains on the paving stones use a degreaser to remove them. You can find these cleaners at any home improvement or building supply retailer. Use a power washer to remove any particularly difficult spots or marks with care, not to force out all of the sand or set material which lines the stones.
Allow your paving stones to dry completely for at least two days. Inspect your pavers for cracks or broken stones. Remove and replace any stones which are not in good condition.
Put on your eye protection and work gloves. Apply your paver sealer according to the directions on the packaging. Most sealers are applied with a brush and should be laid on evenly across the entire paving stone surface. Apply enough sealer so that some runs down the side of the paving stones thus sealing the edges as well.
Allow the sealer enough time to dry according to the package instructions. Do not allow traffic on the surface until the recommended time has passed or you risk damaging the finish and effecting the protective properties of the sealer.
Apply a second coat of sealer if the instructions call for it or if you wish to reinforce the effectiveness of your protectant. You may apply more than 2 coats if you wish.
Follow the drying time guidelines on your sealer packaging before using the surface in any way.
