How to Make a Half-circle Drive Using Pavers

Many homeowners love the look of paver driveways. These driveways are classy and can be installed in whatever shape you choose. One such driveway shape is the half circle. Installing pavers in a half circle is not difficult if you have a tile saw to cut them to the correct size. A wet tile saw is necessary because many cuts have to be made when you are creating a circular paver shape. These cuts are easily made with the tile saw. Ensure plenty of water remains in the tile saw before making each cut. The water can run out quickly during a project of this type.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide where the driveway is going to be located. Use spray paint or string to mark the half-circle area for the drive.

    • 2

Call your local utility companies to request they mark any utilities that might be underground in your yard. This forethought will help prevent possible damage and accidents when excavating the area.

    • 3

Excavate the marked area with a shovel. You will need to dig approximately 10 inches deep to account for a 6-inch layer of compacted gravel, 1 inch of sand and the patio pavers. Level the excavated area slightly so that it lowers approximately 1/8 inch per foot. This process will allow the water to run off the finished driveway as it rains. Compact the excavated dirt with a rented plate compactor.

    • 4

Install landscape edging along the excavated area. The edging will keep the pavers in place over time.

    • 5

Lay down a 6-inch layer of gravel. Compact the gravel with the rented plate compactor. Repeat with a 1-inch layer of sand.

    • 6

Begin laying down the pavers. Set each paver in place and tap it down with a rubber mallet. Save all the pavers along the edges of the driveway until last. These pavers will most likely need to be cut with a tile saw.

    • 7

Cut the edge pavers on a wet tile saw. You may need to cut one side of the paver and turn it over to cut the other side on the tile saw. Fit the pavers in place after they have been cut. Use the rubber mallet to get them in place if you are having trouble.

Sweep sand between the joints of the pavers with a large broom. Repeat until the sand joints have been filled.
