DIY Ideas on Faux Paths & Walkways

Traditional paths and walkways use natural stone pavers, but advances in recycling and home improvement supplies have made faux stones, pavers and surface designs available. Some benefits of faux paths and walkways include less chipping, cracking and post-consumer waste, and some faux stones weigh up to 80 percent less than natural pavers.
  1. Rubber Paver Forest Trail

    • Paths meandering through wooded areas in your yard or in a forest backing up to your property give you the opportunity to explore the area on a comfortable walking surface. Purchase large cobblestone rubber pavers and place them one after the next with approximately 6 inches in between. Avoid creating a straight line by placing every other paver slightly to the right and the others slightly to the left. This method allows each of your feet to connect with the faux path pavers during a normal walking motion.

    Stamped Concrete Walkway

    • A stamped concrete walkway has a natural stone foundation with stone or paver designs imprinted into the concrete. Stamp concrete after it is leveled, but before it dries, with rubber brick or stone templates. Apply enough pressure to create distinct indentations between each stone for aesthetic purposes. Use colored concrete to achieve hues and shades similar to natural stones. Apply outdoor spray paint to miscellaneous stones for a multi-colored effect.

    Faux Wood Garden Path

    • Lay faux wood tree trunk pavers for a unique twist on a faux walkway. Create paths through and around your garden by laying the faux wood steps, one after the next. These pavers work well laid directly on the ground or cushioned into a sandy bed. Laying them on the ground will enable the faux wood pavers to harbor moss, which gives the faux path a more realistic appeal.

    Faux Brick Aisle

    • Many standard brick walkways depict interesting designs, which you can easily mimic with faux brick pattern pavers. Thin cement squares are imprinted and colored to represent a variety of brick walkway patterns. Faux brick pavers are also available in a weathered look to give your walkway more character.

Lay the faux pavers on the ground or dig a shallow trench the length and width you want the aisle to be. Align the edges together for a seamless look.
