DIY Rock Grinder

Crushing and grinding rocks into the desired consistency generally creates gravel. Professionals use large rock grinders to crush rocks in various sizes to smaller consistencies. Rocks are fed through one machine into another to reach many different sizes for the gravel. Thankfully, you do not have to purchase a large rock-grinding machine if you need to crush rocks. You can build your own manual rock grinder, which will allow you to perform similar tasks.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the center of the iron board by measuring the board with tape measure. Make a mark at the center of the board with a permanent marker for future reference.

    • 2

Position the 12-inch iron pipe over the mark at the center of the board. Ensure the pipe is centered on the mark.

    • 3

Weld the pipe to the iron board with an arc welding torch. Wear your gloves and welder's mask to avoid potential hazards.

    • 4

Mix the quick-dry cement in a mixing tub according to the instructions on the label. Place wet cement in the 6-inch iron pipe.

    • 5

Push the 3-foot iron rod into the quick-dry cement in the 6-inch iron pipe. Position the iron rod in the center of the iron pipe.

    • 6

Allow enough time for the quick-dry cement to set. Read the label to determine drying time, as this may very from one manufacturer to another.

    • 7

Place rocks in the 12-inch pipe. Use the cemented iron rod as a piston. Drive the rod into the 12-inch pipe to grind the rocks.

    • 8

Turn over the iron board to remove the crushed rocks in the 12-inch pipe.
