How to Mix Concrete Resurfacing Mixture

Concrete is a porous material when it is not sealed. Unsealed concrete can develop cracks or holes which hold water and further deteriorate the concrete in a walkway or driveway. Mixing concrete resurfacing material in a thick application fills in the cracks and holes, and levels the concrete project. You then mix the resurfacing mixture at its regular thickness to add a layer of resurfacing to the concrete.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Surface Preparation

    • 1

Add one part water to seven parts concrete resurfacing mixture in a 1-gallon bucket.

    • 2

Mix the surface preparation thoroughly with a trowel until it is about the consistency of peanut butter or brick mortar.

    • 3

Apply the resurfacing to deep cracks and holes with a trowel to level the concrete. Let the resurfacing mixture dry thoroughly.

    Resurfacing Mixture

    • 4

Pour 3.5 quarts into a 5-gallon bucket. Add one 40 lb bag of resurfacing mixture to the bucket.

    • 5

Insert a paddle mixer into a drill chuck. Tighten the chuck and place the paddle in the bottom of the bucket.

    • 6

Turn the drill on and move it up and down in the bucket. Touch the drill paddle to the sides of the bucket and move it in a circle to incorporate all of the liquid and powder together.

    • 7

Mix the resurfacing for about five minutes.

    • 8

Pour the mixture on the concrete and spread it out evenly with a long handle squeegee. One bag covers an area of about 12 square feet. Mix additional batches and apply to cover the entire concrete area.
