DIY Driveway Grader

Gravel and dirt driveways are cheaper than concrete and asphalt alternatives, but require occasional maintenance. Weather and constant use can create deep ruts and potholes. These can be fixed by grading, also known as leveling, the driveway. While commercial graders are available, they are expensive. It is possible, however, to make your own grader. While not as precise as commercial graders, they form a much cheaper alternative to consumers.

Instructions

  1. DIY Driveway Grader

    • 1

Tie one end of each section of rope to the corners of one side of the chain link fence gate. Make sure the rope is tied securely and will not come undone. The chain link will allow the gravel or dirt to be distributed from high to low points in your driveway

    • 2

Secure free end of each section of rope to back of lawnmower. Use trailer hitch if available. If your riding lawnmower does not have a trailer hitch, first attach metal clamp to back of lawnmower, then tie ropes to iron clamp.

    • 3

Place cinder block on top of chain link fence gate. This will provide weight which aids in leveling. It also prevents the gate from bouncing on the driveway.
