Decorative Concrete Driveway Alternatives

Concrete can be stained, stamped and stenciled to create original designs for driveways, paths and patios. Pick a pattern for your driveway to complement existing details on your property. For a property with a stone pathway, look for stone stencils in a range of colors. Whether you choose to incorporate colors, patterns or textures into your concrete driveway, alternatives are available to suit most properties.
  1. Stencils

    • Concrete stencils for driveways come in a wide range of patterns. Herringbone, fish scale, pinwheel, cobblestone, ashlar slate and diamond tile stencils are readily available options. Whether you choose to hire a contractor or pursue the project on your own, options exist. if you wish to do it yourself, the stencils can be found in rolls of pattern for ease of stenciling. Or, you can step outside the box and design your own concrete stencil in a geometric, floral or abstract pattern.

    Stamps

    • Decorative concrete stamps are a driveway alternative that is stamped into wet concrete. Choose from a wide range of styles including stamps that imitate natural stone and bricks. After the stamp is removed, color is often applied to customize the look of the driveway. Look for both a color and texture that will blend into the existing decor of your property. Ideas for stamps include brick designs such as herringbone and basket weave, slate designs, flagstone patterns and random stone designs.     Stains

Whether you choose to apply exposed aggregate concrete to your entire driveway, or use it for decorative bands or borders, exposed aggregate comes in a variety of colors to suit your project. Another benefit is that it provides a slip-resistant surface.
