Driveway & Sidewalk Designs

Driveways and sidewalks are functional aspects of a home, but the look of your driveway or sidewalk can also add curb appeal and complement the architectural features of your property. Homeowners have a choice of driveway types, from crushed gravel and basic asphalt or concrete surfaces to more-decorative options. Adding decorative features to concrete or creating a one-of-a-kind brick or stone feature will add to the appeal of your home.
  1. Stamped Concrete

    • Stamped concrete involves imprinting a design or pattern into newly poured concrete. This process is used for driveways and sidewalks, as well as patios, pool decks and porches. Stamped-concrete designs are pressed into wet concrete, giving the appearance of brick, stone, tile and other designs with the durability of concrete. You have the option of adding colors, borders, inlays and custom designs to create a look to complement your home’s style, colors and landscape. A stamped-concrete surface is durable and long-lasting. Sidewalks can incorporate part of the driveway design to coordinate with it.

    Concrete Staining

    • Concrete staining is a process involving an existing driveway or sidewalk. Color is added to transform the gray concrete slab into something more appealing. Different colors and application techniques create a variety of looks. The colors of acid stains are limited to tans, browns, terracotta and light blue-greens, and the color establishes a permanent bond with the concrete, creating a mottled, variegated appearance. Water-based acrylic stains come in a broader range of colors including black, white and metallics, and the color penetrates the concrete, creating colors that are more intense, opaque and uniform.

    Stone Pavers

    • Concrete pavers are available in brick and natural stone looks for driveways and sidewalks. When installing pavers, any existing surface must be excavated and properly prepared. The pavers are interlocked together, allowing individual pavers to be removed and replaced, if needed. Brick pavers are available in a choice of colors, sizes, shapes and textures that are laid in patterns to complement the home and surrounding landscape. Stone pavers are available in stone or tile options, in different shapes, sizes and natural colors. Their irregular shapes give a unique appearance to the driveway or sidewalk.

    Walkways

    • The sidewalk leading to your home welcomes your guests and enhances the entryway. Your sidewalk might be an extension of your driveway or stand on its own. Whatever materials you choose, you also have other design options. For example, the walkway can be straight or curvilinear, depending on the space. Curved walkways create a meandering design, though they require more space to create. Your sidewalk can be a straight path that is simply functional. If your yard elevation allows, your sidewalk might include steps. Planting shrubs or flowers as a border or accent creates a welcoming atmosphere for your home.
