Do It Yourself Lawn Sidewalks

Avoid tracking mud and dirt into your home whenever you walk across your front lawn by making a lawn sidewalk. The sidewalk can connect either to your driveway or you can create a straight path to the street, keeping soles clean whenever you run outside to grab the newspaper off the sidewalk or the mail from your mailbox. All of the building supplies you will need can be obtained from your local home improvement store.

Instructions

    • 1

Place stakes into the ground to mark out the area where you will install the sidewalk. Tie kite string onto the stakes.

    • 2

Dig out the ground along the area at least 4 inches deep for the base materials with the shovel. Tamp the ground with a hand tamper to compact the loose soil.

    • 3

Pour 4 inches of aggregate stones into the dug-out area. Tamp down the stone. Place 1 inch of sand on top of the stone. Smooth out the sand with the 2- inch by 4-inch board.

    • 4

Place cement pavers on top of sand. Tap with the rubber mallet to set the cement pavers in place. Check the levelness of the pavers with the spirit level. Spread sand between the joints of the cement pavers.
