How to Apply DRYLOK Concrete Protector

The care and maintenance of concrete surfaces outside a home can help enhance curb appeal and provide long-term protection from the elements. DRYLOK Concrete Protector, manufactured by United Gilsonite Laboratories, provides weatherproof protection for block, brick and poured concrete surfaces. It seals these surfaces against staining, cracking and general deterioration. Before applying DRYLOK, you must prepare the surface by removing wax, dirt and debris to maximize the penetration of the concrete protector.

Instructions

  1. Surface Preparation

    • 1

Remove mildew, dirt, wax and debris from the surface with a wire brush or scraper. Use DRYLOK Concrete Cleaner and Degreaser to remove stubborn grease stains.

    • 2

Remove all white, powdery deposits that are visible on the surface with DRYLOK Liquid Etch.

    • 3

Rinse the surface with clean water, and do not let the DRYLOK Liquid Etch dry on the surface because this will hinder the penetration of the concrete protector.

    Concrete Protector Application

    • 4

Stir the concrete protector thoroughly. The mixture has a milk-like consistency, but will dry clear.

    • 5

Coat a brush or roller with DRYLOK Concrete Protector and spread it evenly. Apply one coat of the protector to the surface, and wait six hours for the protector to dry.

    • 6

Test the protection by sprinkling droplets of water onto the surface. If the water seeps into the surface, you will need to apply a second coat.
