Scatter kitty litter or coarse sand over the driveway when snow begins to fall. Scoop the material with a plastic cup and shake out generous amounts over the whole surface.
Use a leaf or snow blower to clear the surface of loose snow. Angle the blower so it shoots the snow to the sides of the driveway without moving the pebbles.
Shovel loose snow before it melts and freezes to limit the amount of ice that forms over night. Angle the shovel to slide over the pebbles, and skim the top layer of snow with a snow shovel.
Rake the ice that forms over night with a metal rake early in the day. Push off loose ice and snow to the sides of the driveway or shovel it off. Continue to rake until you break through thick patches of ice. Breaking up the ice will help the sun melt it faster.
Cover the driveway in another layer of kitty litter or sand to create traction and speed up the melting process.
