How to Mix Concrete Fiber

The addition of small fibers to a concrete mixture adds strength to the cured mixture. This prevents cracking when the poured concrete shrinks as it cures. The fibers also make the concrete less likely to crack from an impact from a heavy weight dropped on the concrete or from a heavy load placed on the concrete. The small fibers bound by the Portland cement increase strength in a manner similar to steel bars or mesh.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and add the required amount of water to the concrete mixer for one bag of concrete. Turn the mixer on and let it begin rotating.

    • 2

Pour the bag of concrete mix into the concrete mixer and allow it to mix thoroughly. Add additional water to the mix as required or according the manufacturers instructions to adjust the consistency of the concrete. Mixture consistency ranges from a dry paste to a heavy cake batter.

    • 3

Pour the bag of fibers into the mixture and allow the concrete to mix for an additional two to four minutes, according to the packet instructions. The fiber reinforced concrete is ready for pouring.
