Clean the asphalt surface of stain and debris that otherwise weaken the bond between the asphalt and paint. Pour stain remover over stains and let it sit for 15 minutes while sweeping the rest of the driveway with a stiff push broom. Scrub the stains with a scrub brush and hose off the driveway.
Cover the growth or borders on both sides of the driveway with plastic and pin down the plastic with lawn spikes.
Pour asphalt paint into a painter’s tray. Roll a long-handled roller brush in the paint and apply an even coat over the driveway. For a long driveway, load the paint into a paint sprayer for faster application. Work from one end to the other and wait for the first coat to dry before adding a second.
Turn trash cans upside down on both ends of the driveway near the street and tie a thick ribbon between the cans to prevent cars and foot traffic from smudging the paint while it dries for a day.
Protect the paint and asphalt surface by rolling asphalt sealer over the driveway. Use a pure, clear sealer so you don’t change the color. Apply two coats using the same method as you used to apply the paint. Wait a day for it to dry.
