How to Erect a Metal Shed on Pavers

Setting up a metal shed on a series of interlocking pavers is a stylish alternative to using a traditional concrete slab. Not only does your shed receive the strong foundation that it needs to stay upright over the years through this construction method, but the colorful, linked pavers add interest to your yard. This creative project provides you with a sturdy shed to safely secure your goods as well as a fancy walkway to support it.

Instructions

  1. Creating the Foundation

    • 1

Remove any debris from the area chosen for the shed and if needed, level the ground with a shovel. Pour a shallow layer of loose sand into the cleared location 25 to 40 millimeters -- about 1 to 1 1/2 inches -- deep.

    • 2

Lay the pavers onto the sand in the desired pattern. Leave a small space between each paver so you can easily anchor them with sand. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the pavers as you lay them, as you want to place them evenly along the pattern.

    • 3

Place a thick piece of hardwood over the pavers and tap them with a mallet to bolt them into place. The piece of wood protects the pavers from damage as you pound onto them with medium blows.

    • 4

Pour bedding sand over the pavers and sweep the loose sand over the paving pattern to drive granules into the cracks. This process fills in the gaps you left between the pavers to secure them into place. Tap the pavers with the rubber mallet and hardwood once more to reinforce the foundation’s stability by forcing the sand into the grooves.

    Installing the Shed

    • 5

Remove the parts from the metal shed kit and place them into organized piles. Each pile should be easy to instantly identify; example piles include bolts, wall panels and screws.

    • 6

Put on your gloves and begin erecting the shed by lining up matching metal panels. Each panel has precut holes, making assembly fairly simple. Line up the matching panels according to their aligned holes, and insert the corresponding bolt or screw to secure the pieces.

    • 7

Screw the roof panels onto the metal shed once the walls and foundation have been bolted together on top of the pavers. Once the roof panels have been locked into place, screw the roof cap into place along the length of the shed.

    • 8

Connect any other features of the metal shed such as windows and doors to the metal shed just as you did the previous sections of the unit. Align the holes of the part to the standing metal structure, and bolt or screw them into place.
