According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage for landscape contractors was $21.19 in 2009. The median hourly wage was $19.69 the same year and only 10 percent of workers made more than $32.22 for an hour of work.
BLS experts say the mean annual salary for landscape contractors was $44,080 in 2009. The middle half of earners took home between $32,470 and $53,260.
Landscape contractors working in certain regions usually earn, and generally expect, higher salaries. For example, the mean hourly wage for landscape contractors in Connecticut, the District of Columbia and Delaware are all more than $25.50 an hour. In addition, when considering salaries and fees, take into account the length of the project and the number of total workers involved that the contractor will have to supervise.
