How to Build a Garden Hose Hanger

Keeping a garden hose near your flower beds and vegetable gardens makes watering your plants simple. Many store-bought hose hangers attach to the structure of your home or garden shed, but this isn't always located close to where you need to water. In just under 30 minutes you can build a garden hose hanger that inserts into the ground wherever you want to place it.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 galvanized pipe, 2-inch diameter, 5 feet long
  • 2 elbow joints, 2-inch diameter
  • Wrench
  • 1 galvanized pipe, 2-inch diameter, 1 foot long
  • 1 galvanized pipe, 2-inch diameter, 6 inches long
  • 1 end cap, 2-inch diameter
  • Rubber mallet
  • Garden hose

Instructions

    • 1

Attach one of the elbow joints to an end of the 5-foot-long galvanized pipe using a wrench if needed to secure the joint to the pipe. Place the other elbow joint on one end of your 1-foot-long galvanized pipe.

    • 2

Connect the free end of your 1' pipe to the elbow joint attached to the 5' pipe. This will form an L-shaped unit. Adjust the elbow joint on the end of the 1' pipe so the opening is facing up opposite the 5' pipe.

    • 3

Attach the 6-inch-long pipe to the elbow joint on the 1' pipe and secure with the wrench. The 1' portion of the pipe will hold the hose and the 6'' portion will keep the coils from slipping off the front of the hanger. Attach the end cap to the open end of the 6'' pipe.

    • 4

Determine where you want to place the hose hanger and stand it upright on the bare end of your 5' pipe. Drive the pipe 1 foot into the ground with a rubber mallet. Check the hanger for wobbling and drive it deeper, if necessary, until it is secure.

    • 5

Run your hose from the outdoor faucet straight to your hose hanger's base. Spiral the hose up the 5' pipe and across the 1' pipe until it reaches the 6'' portion. Loop the excess of hose around the 1' pipe, over the spirals, to hold it on the hanger.
