Turn the water supply valve to the irrigation system 1/4 turn clockwise to turn it off.
Dig on each side of the poly tubing leak area where water is pooling on the ground. Remove the ground surrounding the break or crack plus an additional 6 inches on each side.
Measure the length of the crack or break in the poly tubing. Add 2 inches to the measurement. For example, if the crack is 6 inches long, add 2 inches to obtain 8 inches. Cut a new length of poly tubing with a utility knife to this size.
Set the new poly tubing next to the leaky length. Cut out the old poly tubing the same size as the new piece, using a utility knife.
Push a barb fitting into the new length of tubing on each end. Push the barb fitting on each end of the new poly tubing into the existing drip irrigation system to patch the leaking area.
Turn the water supply valve 1/4 turn counterclockwise to open it. Observe the repair to ensure there are no leaks at the fittings.
Shovel the soil back on top of the poly tubing and walk on it to tamp it into place.
