Types of Chain Saws

For homeowners, farmers or loggers, a chain saw is a practical tool for residential or commercial use. It can cut dead trees, branches, firewood and a host of other things. A variety of chain saws are available in stores with home improvement departments.
  1. Gas Chain Saws

    • You can use a gas chain saw outdoors during a variety of weather conditions. It has a loud two-cycle motor that releases fumes since the chainsaw requires combining gas with oil. In addition, the gas must be stored, and the device requires a fresh mixture. Sometimes the user has to empty the fuel from the machine to prevent it from clogging the carburetor.

    Electric Chain Saws

    • The electric chain saw is much quieter than a gas chain saw. It is the only style of chain saw people can use indoors safety, such as for carving materials in a workshop. Unlike a gas chain saw, users cannot operate an electric chain saw in wet conditions. In addition, most electric chain saws come equipped with a 100-foot electrical cord, which limits your work area.

    Cordless Chain Saws

    • A cordless chain saw is the most flexible when it comes to moving it from place to place. It is lighter and quieter than both the gas and electric chain saws. You can use a cordless chain saw to prune brushes and trimming small branches, but the saw is limited in power, and the battery requires recharging every hour or so depending on the model.

    Band Chain Saw

    • Use a band chain saw for metalwork, woodwork or other materials that need to be cut in an odd or bent shape. It features a blade that includes a metal band with teeth on one side. Band chain saws can be powered in various ways.

    Concrete Chain Saw

    • A concrete chain saw is a saw that cuts tile, asphalt, masonry, concrete, brick or other solid material. Hand-held or mounted concrete saws are powered by electric motors, pneumatic pressure, gas or hydraulic.
