How to Lay Corrugated Pipe

Corrugated pipe is ordinarily used for culverts to pass water under a roadway. It is also used for moving water from one area to another when it is not critical if the piping system is not completely leak proof. For leak proof piping, plastic welded piping or steel pipe with flanges are required, but both are more expensive than corrugated pipe. Laying corrugated pipe is relatively simple. It is not heavy in relation to other pipes with equal diameters and hooking it together is easy.

Instructions

Dig a trench. From the beginning of the trench to the other end, the fall must descend at least 1/8 inch per foot. Make the bottom of the trench as flat as possible or it is difficult to measure fall. Dig the trench deep enough to allow for 2 feet of cover over the top of the pipe as you back fill.

    • 2

Lay the pipe in the trench. Wrap a choker chain around the middle of the pipe and hook the chain over a tooth on the hoe's bucket. Lift the pipe and lower it into the trench. trench. Center the pipe in the trench. If more than one pipe is required, add a second and connect the two with a pipe collar. Open the collar and slide one end of each pipe into the collar. Tighten the collar with nuts, bolts and a socket set.

Back fill the trench once the length of it is filled with pipe. Drop dirt on top of the pipe and around the sides. Tamp the dirt around the sides with a rock bar to hold the pipe in place. Fill the trench and compact the top of the trench with the heel of the bucket of the hoe.
