Lush Layout Ideas

Lush landscaping naturally exists in some tropical climates because the weather presents ideal growing conditions for a range of trees and plants. Creating a lush landscape layout in other regions requires a basic understanding of plants' needs and well-prepared soil. Turn up the soil as far down as 12 ft. and mix the loose dirt with fertilizer before planting.
  1. Front Yard

    • Lush terrain in a front yard provides shaded areas and curb appeal, but be cautious of overdoing a lush landscape idea in a front yard because it can make the yard look overgrown and un-manicured. Choose a full tall tree for the middle of the yard, such as a Burgundy Belle Red Maple, and shorter trees similar to the Autumn Splendor Horse Chestnut to line the property. The Bunny Blue Sedge works well for lining front yard walkways because it grows in wide clumps. Patches of wildflowers along the front of your home finish the lush look with pops of color.

    Backyard

    • Densely lush backyard landscaping enhances the coziness of your outdoor living space. Palm trees and desert vegetation, comprised of various cacti, project a warm, tropical atmosphere. Red, orange and yellow flowering plants like geraniums and yellow-blooming aloes add to the tropical aesthetic.

Softer lush backyard landscape ideas are achieved by using ligustrum and boxwood hedges. Place the hedges in large flowerbeds full of Iceberg roses, which grow full in all directions. Smaller, shorter flowers along the edge of the flower beds create a seamless transition from the grass to taller shrubs.

    Pool

    • A combination of large rocks and thick foliage around a pool is a lush combination that provides backyard privacy. Yellow Euryops daisies, short palms and pink geraniums grow thick to cover large plots of ground and fill in deep spaces between boulders. Adding large planters full of succulents and taller shrubs exhibits lush foliage on paved areas surrounding the pool. Plant shade trees near seating areas to give yourself a cool retreat from the warm sun.

    Garden

    • Lush garden walls surrounding intimate settings present you with unique dining and relaxing opportunities. Plant tall trees and privacy hedges surrounding paths or open spaces. Ligustrum and Cecile Brunner roses grow tall to add colorful hues and fill extra space. Fill additional crevices with your choice of low maintenance greenery or flowers. A water fountain surrounded by overgrown shrubs gives off a romantic feel, while providing the relaxing sound of running water. Cover the entrance with a domed trellis adorned with climbing ivy.
