How to Landscape With Sleepers

There are many different items you can use to help enhance the landscaping around your home. One example is sleepers, which are wooden planks often used for flooring support that can impact the stability and function of your landscaping. Unlike many other types of supports, sleepers are wooden, typically pre-stained and, therefore, create a more attractive form of support when used outdoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area where you will be installing the sleeper. Sleepers are available at most home improvement centers, often as 2-by-4s, which can be cut to fit.

    • 2

Set the sleeper in place to check the fit. It needs to fit flush across the surface of the landscaping element, such as the deck or stairway. When using sleepers to stabilize a deck or other floor, install them every 12 to 16 inches.

Tap the sleeper with a mallet to get it perfectly into position.

    • 4

Secure the landscaping sleepers with 10-inch landscaping screws and a power screwdriver.
