How to Stop Crows From Taking Eggs From the Hen House

Crows are sneaky, clever birds that have a taste for hen eggs. Keeping them out of the hen house can be a real challenge. Ideally, you want to prevent them from getting in in the first place, but unfortunately even the best designed hen house will fall victim to crows. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to stop these pest birds from stealing the fruits of your labor.

Instructions

  Analyze your hen house for points of unwanted entry. Replace any holes in the wire mesh, walls, roof, and floor if necessary. Make sure you keep the door closed at all times.

  Ensure the coop opening to the nest boxes is large enough to fit only one hen through.

  Put more nesting material into the nests and add a barrier across the front of the nest to prevent the hens' kicking out the material. This allows the hen eggs to be partially buried and out of sight, making it hard for the crows to see the eggs.

  Place a fake bird of prey on top of the cage.

  Keep pregnant hens inside their house to ensure they lay their eggs inside.

  Use a sonic, or ultrasonic repellent device. Simply place it near the hen house and let the device do the work of using sound waves to scare away the birds.

  Shoot at the crows with a gun. Any type of gun that fires projectiles or makes a loud sound will work. Shoot to kill or simply scare.
