DIY Concrete Paving Stones

Concrete paving stones can provide a durable pathway in your home's landscape. These stones can be created from cement found at a building supply store and are enhanced with the addition of a river stone mosaic. Smooth, flat river stones can be purchased from craft and floral supply stores or gathered from the banks of a river. These river stones will also add texture to the pavers, making them less slippery in wet weather.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a dust mask, safety glasses and rubber gloves. Coat the inside of a pizza box with petroleum jelly.

    • 2

Mix 8 cups of concrete with water in a plastic pail, adding water slowly and mixing with a trowel until the concrete is the consistency of pudding.

    • 3

Move the wet concrete to a cardboard box with the trowel. Smooth the top of the concrete with the trowel.

    • 4

Press the river rocks into the top surface of the concrete square in a random mosaic pattern. This step must be performed within 15 minutes of mixing the concrete.

    • 5

Let the concrete paving stone dry for at least 12 hours, and then rip the cardboard box away from the completed paving stone. Let the stone cure for one week before you walk on it. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 to make paving stones with the five remaining pizza boxes.
