Sprinkle a few drops of water on the surface of some of the paving stones to test for porosity. If the water drops soak into the concrete, the paving stones are ready for sealing. Cover the stones with plastic wrap overnight, taped in place with duct tape. If beads of moisture appear on the underside of the plastic wrap, that indicates that the concrete has too high a moisture content for sealing to be effective.
Clean the paving stones of any dirt, oil or grease.
Apply a combination concrete degreasing and etching compound. Apply the product with a non-metal sprinkling can, scrub the stones with a stiff bristle broom and then rinse with a garden hose. Allow the paving stones to dry thoroughly.
Apply the sealer to the paving stones with a paint sprayer, paint roller, paint brush or sponge. Allow four hours for the sealer to dry, then apply another coat. Apply several coats, allowing each to dry before adding another.
