How to Cut Pavers With an Angle Grinder

Many different kinds of pavers exist to help you create a unique walkway or patio. Depending on the design of your walkway or patio, you may need to cut some of the pavers to make a straight edge. Instruments such as a hammer and chisel, wet saw or an angle grinder are used to cut pavers. While a hammer and chisel are likely the least expensive investments, an angle grinder might be a better alternative because you'll achieve a nice, straight cut.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a line on the paver along the path of where you want to cut it.

    • 2

Clamp the paver down to a table or workbench to prevent movement. You do not want to hold on to the paver while cutting it.

    • 3

Load a 4 1/2-inch masonry blade into your angle grinder. The blade is diamond-tipped to facilitate quick, clean cutting through the paver. Refer to your grinder's manual for proper installation of the blade.

    • 4

Plug the angle grinder in, put on your safety glasses and align the cutting edge of the blade with the marked line.

    • 5

Press the trigger to engage the blade of the angle grinder and allow the blade to cut into the paver. Do not push excessively; let the blade do the work. Gentle pressure is all that is required.

    • 6

Let go of the trigger once the paver has been cut all the way through on the line.
