I Need Advice on How to Get My Troy-Bilt Weed Trimmer Started

Under the Troy-Bilt brand name, the Garden Way Corporation manufactures a wide variety of lawn and garden equipment including mowers, garden tillers and string trimmers. Some models run on rechargeable batteries, while others such as the model 52066, come equipped with a gasoline engine. Once your trimmer has been fueled, starting the unit is a fairly easy task to perform and should only take a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the trimmer to the area where you wish to work.

    • 2

Connect the spark plug wire and boot to the spark plug.

    • 3

Put on your safety goggles or safety glasses.

    • 4

Disengage the trimmer head control bail. It is a spring-loaded steel rod mounted between the handlebars and controls the trimmer head. Simply ease it forward until the spring tension is gone.

    • 5

Slide the throttle control lever into the "fast" position. The control lever is mounted on the right handlebar. A symbol of a running rabbit marks the "fast" position.

    • 6

Press the primer bulb several times until it is completely filled with fuel.

    • 7

Grasp the starter rope and pull it slowly until you encounter resistance. At that point, pull rope out briskly to start the engine. Ease the rope back slowly so as not to damage the recoil starter spring. Pull the starter rope a maximum of three times. If the engine fails to fire, pause, reprime the engine and repeat pulling the starter rope. The engine will start.

    • 8

Wait a few minutes for the engine to warm up.

    • 9

Engage the trimmer head control bail. Pull it back toward the top of the handlebar until the trimmer head is spinning at full speed and begin trimming.
