Use a hose and stiff brush to clean any cracks and pits in the cement. Remove pebbles, dirt and any other debris embedded in the cement, and wait for the cement to dry completely.
Chisel the holes and cracks into the shape of a wide V with a hammer and cold chisel, and clean off any remaining debris.
Use a ruler to measure the depth of the holes and cracks. If any are deeper than half an inch, fill in the bottom with course sand until it fills to a point about half an inch from the surface.
Mix a small batch of cement until the mixture forms a thick paste.
Use a hose to lightly moisten the holes and surrounding areas. Fill in the holes with the fresh cement mixture, using a putty knife in the holes and a caulk gun to get into the cracks. Add cement until it rises slightly above the surface of the walkway and gently tamp the top.
Scrape away excess cement until the cracks and holes are filled and level with the walkway. Wait two hours for the cement to set, and then spray the new cement and surrounding walkway with more water.
Mix enough concrete to spread a half-inch layer of new cement over the old concrete surface.
Pour the cement mix onto the surface beginning at one end and working your way across. Use a trowel to spread the cement over the entire surface of the walkway.
Cover the new walkway with plastic if rain or temperatures below 50 degrees are expected. Wait three days before walking on the new surface, and water the new concrete twice a day.
