How to Change Solar Walkway Lights

Solar lights are an eco-friendly way of lighting an outdoor path or walkway. These lights use the energy of the sun to turn on at night. The energy is stored in a rechargeable battery. When the light sensors in the solar light detect that the sun has gone down, the battery powers up the solar lights. There are many styles of solar lights available on the market. Changing your current style of solar light out for a new style is very simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Moisten the ground around where you will be removing and replacing your solar lights.

    • 2

Grasp the stake of your old solar light and pull it out of the ground. If you will be installing your new solar lights at different locations along the walkway, fill the holes with a bit of topsoil.

    • 3

Place the tip of the new solar light stake onto the surface of the ground. If you are placing the new lights in the same location as the old lights, simply slide the new light's stake into the old holes.

    • 4

Push the new solar light into the ground using the stake. Do not push the light into the ground using the light itself. If your new solar light is a hanging light, remove the lights before pushing the stake into the ground.

    • 5

Position the solar lights 2 to 3 feet apart, depending how much light you want to give to the walkway. Make sure that no part of the solar lights hangs over the walkway, as this would be a tripping hazard.
