Mark the layout for the path using two ropes or garden hoses. Stand back away from the path to check your design. When you have it just right spray paint the lines and put away the ropes or hoses.
Measure the length of the path and multiply that number with the rough calculation from the mock layout. Order slightly more than required and ask if you can return excess pavers. Or, you can keep the extras for other projects like a border for a garden bed or a tree.
Dig out the path allotting space for gravel, sand and the pavers. Generally it will be between six to eight inches deep.
Insert the landscaping fabric. If you are working with a border, add your border pavers along the length of the path using the mallet and level.
Lay out the gravel and the sand and use the 2-by-4 to smooth and level the sand.
Lay down the pavers using the rubber mallet and level as you move down the path. For curved areas lay your stones out with the ends extending beyond your marked lines. Mark where they need to be cut.
Cut stones for the edges and curved areas using the wet saw.
Finish the path by adding a layer of sand on the finished path. Sweep the sand into the crevices between the stones and wet it down with water to set the sand in place. Another option is to use a polysand and apply it the same way. When the polysand gets wet it will harden and hold the stones in place.
