Trouble With Solar Yard Lights

Outdoor solar yard lighting allows you to have a lighted path at night without flipping a switch or spending money on electricity. Solar yard lights charge in the sun by day and automatically turn on at night when the sun goes down. If your lights aren't working properly, check a few things before buying a new set.
  1. Location

    • Solar yard lights need direct contact with the sun's rays for the duration of the day. Select a location for your lights that won't be blocked by your house or nearby plants.

    Maintenance

    • Routinely clean off the solar panel with a damp towel; panels caked with debris can't effectively capture the sun's rays. Consider moving the yard lights to a different location if you notice excessive mud on the panel from rain splashes.

    Batteries

    • The batteries that come with your solar lights tend to last about one to two years. Keep them in best working order by periodically removing them from the light housing and dusting off any debris with a dry rag. Replace the batteries when you notice the light output diminishing.

    Tips

    • Solar yard lights don't have light bulbs like traditional yard lights do. Solar lights use LED technology, meaning you won't ever have to change a broken or burnt-out yard light.
