Instructions

    • 1

Excavate the area where the path is to be located using the flat-edged shovel. Excavate no more than 3 to 4 inches of dirt, just enough to skim the grass and grass roots from the path. The width of the path should be no less than 3 or 4 feet.

    • 2

Unroll weed mat into the excavated area. Weed mat prevents the formation of weeds and also helps keep the gravel from compacting into the soil over time.

    • 3

Line the sides of the pathway with border rock of your choosing. The border rock will help keep the weed mat in place as well as hide its edges.

    • 4

Dump pea gravel between the border rocks and smooth it carefully with a bow rake. Ensure that there are at least 3 to 4 inches of gravel on the path for adequate depth.
