Instructions

    • 1

Cover the work area with newspapers or other protective film to protect the worktable.

    • 2

Prepare the molds. Oil the walls and corners of the mold with silicone spray or vegetable oil.

    • 3

Put on protective goggles, face mask and gloves.

    • 4

Mix quick-setting cement according to package directions in the wheelbarrow. Blend in the color pigment if you choose to use it. The cement mixture should resemble the consistency of brownie batter.

    • 5

Pour the cement to the top edge of the mold, making sure it fills the sides and corners.

    • 6

Level the surface of the cement using a piece of 2- by-4 lumber that is long enough to cross the length and width of the mold. Stand the wood on edge. Start from one side of the mold, moving the wood in a side-to-side motion, until you reach the opposite side of the mold.

    • 7

Embellish the surface. Allow the concrete to sit for about 10 minutes and press small rocks or embellishments of your choice into the surface. Press stones into the cement at least half their thickness. Wait 15 minutes to use a foam-rubber stamp to imprint shapes into the surface. Press the stamp into the cement until you are satisfied with the depth and remove. If you do not like the impression, you can start over. Lightly mist the surface with water and smooth it out. Repeat the impression process.

Cure the stepping stone for at least 24 hours before placing them outdoors. Once they dry and harden, it is time to put them in place.
