How to Landscape with Grass Flagstone

Many homes have walkways that go between the home and different areas of the yard. Often, these walkways are built from concrete due to its durability and inexpensive cost. Another option is to build a walkway out of flagstone. Flagstone is flat stone, and is used in many applications, including walkways, patios and fences. Installing a flagstone walkway provides you with a path that has a natural appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the stones on the lawn in the location where you are installing the pathway. Position the stones so that you can easily step between them.

    • 2

Score the ground immediately around the stones by driving a spade straight down around the perimeter.

    • 3

Remove the stones from the path of the walkway. Try to keep them in the order you set them.

    • 4

Dig the sod up where you set the stones, going deep enough to remove the roots.

    • 5

Add sand to the holes and place the stones on top.

    • 6

Tap the stones down with a rubber mallet until they are slightly above the surface of the lawn.
