How to Install Pavestone Blocks

Pavestone blocks can be used to create custom walkways and paths through your yard, your garden or around a patio. Pavestones come in a variety of different sizes, shapes and colors, allowing you full creative license to create the pathway of your choice. Once you have chosen the style you want for your pavers, all that is left to do is lay them properly in your yard or garden. This project can typically be completed in a weekend.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark where you want your blocks to go. Measure out the size of your blocks and then use your landscaping string to mark where they will be placed on the ground. You can tie the string to pencils and then insert those in the ground to keep your lines straight.

    • 2

Dig down into the dirt. You will need to dig down approximately 9 to 11 inches. Work slowly and make sure your path is even and the bottom of the hole is level. Tamp the soil down.

    • 3

Pour in 7 to 8 inches of base materials. This will give your walkway a firm foundation. When you have reached your intended level, use your tamper to push down on the rocks. If necessary add more base materials until the surface is level.

    • 4

Add 1 inch of sand on top of the base materials. This will be used to create a bed for the pavestones. Pour in the sand, and compress it down with your tamper.

    • 5

Place the pavestones. Place each pavestone and line it up perfectly before moving to the next stone. Lay them all out in your desired pattern and step down on them to tamp them down into the ground.

    • 6

Pour the remaining sand over the pavestones. The sand will keep the pavestones stable. It is all right to get sand on the pavestones; you will take care of that in the next step.

    • 7

Sweep the pavestones to remove excess sand. Sweep so that the sand fills in the area between the pavestones.

    • 8

Wet down the new pathway. This will help the sand set. Use a hose and spray the pathway until the sand is damp and has turned a dark brown color.
