How to Cut Concrete Stepping Pavers

Concrete pavers are an economical, easy-to-install material for walkways, landscaping details and garden edges. Concrete pavers are widely available in a broad range of shapes, finishes and colors. During installation cutting the pavers is necessary to shape corners, adjust the fit next to a wall or boundary or fill a unique space. The procedure to accurately and safely cut concrete stepping pavers ensures a perfect fit wherever special cuts are needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Define the cut line on the top surface of the paver. Measure the intended space for the cut concrete paver and transpose these dimensions to the edge of the paver at both ends to establish a cut line. Use a chalk line to mark a cut line between the two marks.

    • 2

Position the concrete paver faceup on a stable surface where the paver can be firmly held during the cutting.

    • 3

Mount a masonry blade on a circular saw and adjust the blade's cutting depth to only a half inch.

    • 4

Rest the front edge of the saw table on the edge of the paver and align the saw blade with the cutting line. Turn on the saw and begin the cut slowly to guide the cut. Cut the full length of the cutline.

    • 5

Return the saw to the starting point of the cut line and readjust the blade depth to about 1 inch. Repeat the previous step to complete another cutting pass over the paver. The cut is now deep enough to snap off the scrap piece of concrete on standard-thickness stepping pavers. Make additional cuts at incrementally deeper cutting depths for thicker types of pavers.
