How to Make Your Own Sidewalk Blocks

Sidewalk blocks made from concrete come in a wide variety of shapes and styles. They are used as pavers for walkways, paths and sidewalks. Make your own concrete sidewalk blocks from a mold instead of purchasing them for your next project. The blocks are simple to pour, and making them yourself may even prove to be more cost effective. Select a block mold in a style that will complement your home's exterior. For example, if you live in a rustic-style or cottage-style home, a cobblestone block would be ideal.

Instructions

    • 1

Add quick-setting concrete mix and water to a mixing trough according to the package instructions. Pour the water into the trough in small amounts, and mix it in with the concrete mix with a trowel. Continue to add water and mix until the material achieves a stiff batter consistency.

    • 2

Place the sidewalk block mold on a work surface with the inside of the mold facing up. Spray the inside of the mold with an even coat of mold-release spray.

    • 3

Pour the mixed concrete into the mold. Fill the mold halfway. Lift the mold up and tap it on the work surface several times to release any air pockets in the mix. Rest the mold back on the work surface. Fill the mold completely and repeat the tapping process to remove any remaining air bubbles.

Cover the mold with plastic sheeting, and place it in a cool, dry place for at least 24 hours. Remove the plastic sheeting, and lift the block out of the mold. Allow the block to cure for 30 days before use.
