How to End a Walkway

Ending stone or brick walkways sounds easy, but to have a finished look, certain tools and methods are required. Whenever laying brick or stone for patios and walkways, you must be prepared to cut your materials. Industrial cement saws, such as masonry saws are often used for this task. A finished look to a walkway will have no gaps or spaces between the individual bricks, or between the bricks and cement or lawn.

Instructions

  1. Ending a Walkway to Cement

    • 1

Lay all the stones or bricks in your walkway until there is not enough space for full bricks or stones to fit between the walkway and driveway or sidewalk. You will have to cut each individual stone before finishing the walkway.

    • 2

Measure the width and length of the spaces that are left and write down the dimensions you need. Put on your safety glasses and use your masonry saw to cut each stone or brick to the proper dimension.

    • 3

Fit the stones or bricks in the spaces that you measured for their cuts starting from one side of the end, working towards the other side. Hit the bricks or stones into place using your rubber mallet if they cannot be pushed in by hand.

Ending a Walkway to a Lawn

    • 4

Lay all the stones or bricks in your walkway until you have almost reached the end. There should be enough space for half a row.

    • 5

Set the stones or bricks over the lawn and cut out the soil using your shovel or trowel.

    • 6

Remove the soil and fit each brick or stone into the space cut for them.
