Dig a trench that is 6- to 8-inches deep and 8-inches wide the length of the place for trimming.
Cut strips of flexible benderboard with a circular saw to the depth of the trench as a form for the curbs. Set parallel rows of bender board 6-inches apart in the trench with the top of the benderboard level with the ground. Support the benderboard with wooden stakes outside it.
Cut scrap lumber blocks 6-inches wide. Setting the wooden blocks between the parallel strips and below grade level keeps the curbing the same width throughout. Nailing the benderboard and blocks together completes the forms.
Mix quick-set concrete according to package directions. Place the concrete inside the forms, working the concrete into all edges and completely filling the forms. Smooth the concrete top with a trowel.
Running an edge tool between the concrete and the benderboard creates a smooth finish once the concrete absorbs most of the water in the mixture. Turn the trowel on edge and mark lines across the curb’s width serving as decorative marks. Make these marks in damp concrete every 8 to 10 inches. Let the concrete dry for 48 hours before proceeding.
Pull off the forms from the outside of the concrete mow strip. Place dirt in the remaining trench between the lawn and the new mow curb. Tamp the soil in place with a hand tamper.
