How to Treat Peach Trees With Tree Sap

Peach trees grow throughout the United States and yield fruit throughout the summer. There are two main types of peach trees, freestone and clingstone, which are based upon the nature of the pit's removal. Unfortunately, peach trees are plagued by several health issues. One of these issues is bacterial cankers, which cause sap to ooze from the trees. Treating bacterial canker early will stop the spread of the disease, which is potentially lethal to the tree.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the tree's trunk and limbs for any area that are oozing sap. Cover these areas with a small amount of spray paint.

    • 2

Hold the flame of a propane torch against the affected area for 20 to 30 seconds, according to the University of Idaho website. This will kill the infection and prevent it from spreading. Repeat the process of cauterizing the canker by this method once a day for up to three weeks.

Prune away any infected branches approximately 2 inches below the canker. Perform this act after the peach trees have gone to bud. After pruning, wipe down any tools used with rubbing alcohol. This will prevent the spread of the disease to any trees.
