Small Rainforest Trees

Rainforest plants and trees are well suited to any garden. They can provide an unusual variety of plant types sure to make a rainforest theme garden a standout in your yard. You can grow most trees that grow in any rainforest in a full sun area and they will stay relatively small. Exceptions are the Blue Quandong and pines, such as Hoop, Kauri and Bunya. They will grow tall regardless of the circumstances.
  1. Foambark Tree (Jagera Pseudorhus)

    • The Foambark is a small evergreen, slender tree with an umbrella-shaped crown of fern-like foliage. It produces creamy flowers with orange or yellow berries following. Because the berries can irritate the skin, plant this tree in the center of the garden and surround it with other plants to avoid contact with the berries. It is a hardy and colorful tree, growing to a height of 18 to 25 feet.

    Ivory Curl Tree (Buckinghamia Celssima)

    • Beautiful long floral spikes are the highlight of this fast-growing evergreen. It has a rough brown bark and long shiny leaves. Left unattended, it can grow to a height of 65 feet, so prune it to maintain its small stature.

    Pink Ash (Alphonitonia Petriel)

    • This is a fast-growing tree that will grow to 18 to 30 feet, and will have a circumference of 12 to 18 feet. Large heads of white flowers adorn its broad leaves.

    Rusty Fig (Ficus Rubiginosa)

    • The leaves on this small-to-medium sized tree have brown hairs on the underside of its green leaf. This produces a shimmering change of colors on windy days. It is a beautiful, bushy shade tree.

    Tree Fern (Cyathea Arbonea)

    • It is a small evergreen fern tree that can grow to 30 feet tall. At its crown, it will have 10 or more spreading leaves, creating a lively display.
