How to Troubleshoot a Poulan 1950LE Chainsaw

Poulan is a company that was started in 1944 and manufactures a line of products that includes riding mowers, trimmers, tillers, blowers and chainsaws. The Poulan 1950 LE chainsaw is effective for removing or pruning trees and large bushes and cutting firewood. Basic troubleshooting tips may help you out if your chainsaw isn't working like you want and you are hesitant to call for service.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the ignition switch is in the "On" position and that the fuel tank is full if the saw won't run, or only runs for a few seconds and stalls. Replace the spark plug and fuel filter if the other fixes aren't successful.

    • 2

Flip the "On/Stop" button to "On" and press the choke knob completely in so it's off if the saw won't start and you suspect the engine is flooded. Press down on the primer bulb six times and then squeeze and hold the throttle trigger while pressing the fast idle lock with your thumb. Release the throttle trigger and pull the throttle rope until the saw starts. Squeeze the throttle trigger and release it a few times to allow the engine to return to idle.

    • 3

Drain the fuel tank and refill the saw with the clean fuel if the engine smokes when it's in use.

    • 4

Remove the air filter and clean it with soap and water if the saw won't accelerate or loses power when you use it. Replace the air filter if it is saturated with dirt. Replace the spark plug and disengage the chain brake if it is on.
