# How to Remove Rust From Hedge Clippers
Hedge clippers are a common gardening tool. Also called hedge trimmers, these tools help to prune, trim and groom shrubs and hedges. There are a wide variety of hedge clippers in terns of material, size and power. Some hedge clippers are manual, while others are powered by gas or electricity. Whatever the source of power, hedge clippers are made of metal, which can rust if not taken care of properly. Removing rust from the clippers keeps the tool sharp and usable.
Things You'll Need
- Steel wool or scrubbing pad
- Mineral oil
- Lime juice or lemon juice
- Table salt
- Paper towels

Scrub off the surface rust. Use a steel wool pad to scrape off the rust on the hedge clippers.

Apply lubricant. Use mineral oil on the rust to soften the corrosion. Apply the mineral oil with a rag or paper towel. Wait 10 to 20 minutes. Scrub the rust stains with steel wool or a scrubbing pad. Wipe the hedge clippers clean with a cloth or paper towel.

Combine in a bowl 2 parts table salt and 1 part lime or lemon juice. Create a thick paste by stirring. Apply the paste to the rust stains on the hedge clipper with a paper towel. Wait at least 2 hours for the paste to work on the rust.

Scrub the paste with a scrubbing pad or steel wool pad. Use a damp paper towel to clean away the paste and rust. Dry with a paper towel.
