Short, Thick Growing Shrubs & Bushes

Evergreen shrubs are short and dense, and they add year-round color to landscapes. Narrowleaf and broadleaf are the two types of evergreen shrubs. All evergreens loose a portion of their needles annually and need optimal soil drainage to grow.

    • The Savin juniper (Juniperus sabina) has a moderate growth rate, reaching 2 feet in height and 6 feet in width. This narrowleaf evergreen plant has elegant lace-like greenery. The evergreen shrub requires full sun and low moisture.

    • Part of the euonymus genus, emerald 'n' gold (Euonymus fortune) is a broadleaf evergreen plant. This 2-foot tall, 4-foot wide plant has a slow to moderate growth pattern. The green leaves of the emerald 'n' gold has a gold border with slight hues of pink in the winter time.

    • The creeping Oregon (Mahonia repens) has bluish-green spiny leaves that turn to a purple color in winter. The plants flowers are yellow with bluish-black grape like fruits. Landscapers use this broadleaf evergreen for ground cover since it only grows to 1 foot in height and 3 feet in width.
