Growing to sizes between 6 feet and 10 feet tall, common ninebark usually has a width that matches its height. Ninebark feature many stems with leaves between 1 and 3 inches in length. Its white-pink flowers bloom during May and June, reaching diameters of 1/2 inch and emerging in 1- to 2-inch-wide clusters.
The Nanus hybrid of common ninebark is a dwarf cultivar, growing to between 1 and 2 feet high and possessing peeling bark. A small ninebark shrub such as Nanus works well in rock gardens, low hedges and in shrub borders.
Types of ninebark cultivars closer in size to the species include the 7-foot Snowfall hybrid, 5-foot Dart's Gold, 6- to 8-foot Center Glow and the Diablo hybrid, which grows to between 4 and 8 feet tall. These shrubs have varied features, from the prominent purple foliage found on the Diablo variety to the yellow leaves that develop on Dart's Gold.
