How to Hide or Decorate the House Foundation

The foundation of your home plays the crucial role of supporting your home from the ground up. While essential to the home, the foundation isn't always attractive. Decorating or hiding your foundation improves the overall appearance of the home. A combination of paint and landscaping helps to mask the foundation to make it look like a part of the landscaping. When planning the decorative elements, consider that you may need access to the foundation if you experience leaking or other problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply stucco to an unattractive concrete block foundation to cover up its utilitarian look. Ensure you have effective drainage and no leaking issues before applying the stucco.

    • 2

Paint the bricks or stucco a different color to help it blend in with the home. Another option is to paint the foundation a color to help it blend in with the landscaping, such as a shade of brown or green.

    • 3

Add a deck to part of the home to cover that section of the foundation. Attach a trellis material along the bottom of the deck so you aren't able to see underneath to the foundation.

    • 4

Plant shrubs or bushes along the foundation. The shrubbery has a large volume so most of the foundation is covered. Do not plant too close to the foundation and ensure soil is graded away from the foundation to avoid moisture problems.

    • 5

Plant flowers or smaller plants in front of the shrubbery to create depth in the landscaping. The flowers also help fill in any gaps in the shrubbery.
