Cut a square of wool fabric measuring 24-by-24 inches. Turn the wool over with the right side facing downward. Squeeze a line of hot glue along all edges of the wool square, and then fold all of the edges inward by 1/2 inch. Let it dry for 10 minutes.
Select a 24-by-24 inch thin wooden panel and place it in front of you with the desired side facing upward. Put a large "X" in hot glue across the surface of the wood panel, from one corner to the other. Select this wooden panel, or tile, from a craft and hobby supply store.
Grasp the hemmed wool square and place it, centered, over the glued surface of the wooden panel. Adhere the wool with the right side facing upward. Use the rolling pin from the bottom of the wooden panel upward, pressing the fabric into place. Let it dry for 10 minutes.
Soak a kitchen scouring pad with tap water and wring it out to expel excess moisture from it. Apply it to the surface of the wool material and buff it in circular motions all over the surface of the fabric. This technique is known as felting and it is used to make wool look like felt without having to use the easily-torn felt in your crafts. Buff the fabric for approximately five minutes with the scouring pad until it's fuzzy and felted.
Turn over the panel and drill a hanging bracket along the edge you want to mark as the "top" of the wall hanging. Use two 1/4-inch screws for this.
Create a pleasing design with acrylic paints, stencils and brushes over the tatted, felted wool fabric. For instance, you can place a stencil of a large butterfly over the center of the wool, and then take your time coloring it in with paints of any color variety. Use your imagination and let your creativity guide you. Let the finished painted design dry for 2 hours.
